Advantage And Disadvantage Of Die-Casting Techonology

Advantages of die casting include but not limit to excellent dimensional accuracy of castings. Usually this depends on the raw material used, the typical value is 0.1 mm deviation for the initial 2.5 cm size, and 0.002 mm deviation for each additional 1 cm. Compared with other casting method, die-casting part surface is smooth, and the radius of the rounded corner is about 1-2.5 microns. Compared to sandbox or permanent mold casting, die casting part with wall thickness of about 0.75 mm can be made. It can directly cast internal structures, such as wire sleeves, heating elements, and high strength bearing surfaces. Other advantages include the ability to reduce or avoid secondary machining, faster pilot or mass production speed, tensile strength of the casting up to 415 mpa, and the ability to cast metals with high fluidity.

The biggest disadvantage of die casting is the cost, it is expensive. Casting equipment, die casting molds and mould-related components are expensive than the other casting methods. Therefore, it is more economical to produce large quantities of products when making die castings. Other disadvantages include that the process is only suitable for metals with higher fluidity, and the casting parts weight must be between 30 grams and 10 kilograms. The die casting parts will always have bubbles inside. Therefore, no heat treatment or welding on it, because the gas in the gap will expand under the action of heat, resulting in internal small defects and surface stripping.

Every processing method has its advantage & disadvantage, just choose the most suitable one to your project, if you have difficulty in choosing the right way to process your new project, just contact us SunOn Industrial Group Limited, we will support you on it.
